7DAYS EuroCup: 3 from 3 at home on Tuesday
We are at the midway point of the 2017/2018 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season and groups A through D are starting to take shape. We are still a long way off everything being decided, but pieces of the puzzle are falling into place. On Tuesday, not much was established as just three games opened Round 5 of the 7DAYS EuroCup.
In those three games, Darussafaka tightened its grip on Group A with a win over Andorra, while in Group B Lietkabelis Panevezys stopped Buducnost. Finally, Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius eased to victory over Limoges. The night was defined by the three home teams all winning in front of their own fans.
Group A
Darussafaka Istanbul is steamrolling through Group A and maintained its unbeaten record (5-0) with an 85-77 win over MoraBanc Andorra (1-4). The hosts started well and led 26-17 after the first act, before extending to 66-52 through thirty minutes. Andorra rallied in the fourth quarter, but arguably only because Darussafaka eased off the gas. A 19-25 final frame did little to hide the fact this was a cruising home win. Scottie Wilbekin showed how important he is to Darussafaka’s attack with 24 points and 6 assists in the win.
Group B
The wheels have come off Buducnost Voli Podgorica’s 7DAYS EuroCup campaign as the team lost its second in succession after a three-game winning start to the season. Lietkabelis Panevezys claimed a 86-79 to move to 3-2 in the standings, while Buducnost is on the same record off the back of that blistering early season form. The damage was done early in Lithuania, with the hosts draining 31 points in the first quarter to lead 31-13. Buducnost spent the rest of the game fighting back, something the team did admirably (20-14 Q2 and 16-30 Q3) before falling short in the fourth quarter.
Group C
Elsewhere in Lithuania, Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius controlled Limoges to a commanding 92-76 home win. Victory sent the hosts to 2-3, while Limoges dropped to the same record. This was another game that was largely decided by a huge first period form the hosts. Lietuvos Rytas secured a 28-19 lead through 10 minutes and then really settled the contest with a 24-14 run in the third act. Rokas Giedraitis and Travis Peterson topped the winning effort with 19 points apiece.
