Carmelo Anthony leaves Knicks for Oklahoma Thunder
Carmelo Anthony (203 cm, Syracuse’03) is no longer a New York Knick after one of the biggest NBA moves of the summer. The small forward is ending a six-year association with the New York franchise, a stint that coincided with him becoming one of the hottest properties in the league.
However, Anthony arguably never had the team around him to push the Knicks even close to a championship. So, while he departs New York with plenty of personal highs, the franchise may feel it is getting a good deal for Carmelo Anthony at the right time.
Carmelo is moving to Oklahoma City Thunder, and in exchange the franchise sent Enes Kanter and Doug McDermott the other way. In addition, the Thunder is also giving up a second-round draft pick to the Knicks.
Since moving to New York after eight seasons with the Denver Nuggets, Anthony has scored more than 21 points per game in each season, more than six rebounds per start, and over three assists. Arguably his best period (2012 to 2014 when he was the best scorer in the NBA) is behind him, but nevertheless Carmelo secured 22.4 ppg, 5.9 rpg, and 2.9 apg over 74 games last term.
