2017 Eurobasket: France tops Italy in friendly
Helsinki, Finland – France has gained some momentum heading into the FIBA 2017 Eurobasket after defeating Italy, 88-63 in a recent friendly tournament on August 21st. Four nations participated in the preparatory tournament. They were France, Italy, Belgium, and Montenegro. France was a dominant powerhouse in this one, sweeping the competition to finish undefeated.
France was boosted by the energetic play of Joffrey Lauvergne, who dropped a game-high 20 points and six rebounds. His teammate, Evan Fournier, chipped in 17 points of his own. The Italians were led by veteran guard, Marco Belinelli who recorded 15 points.
Montenegro secured second place in the tournament, thanks to the efforts of big man, Nikola Vucevic. The Orlando Magic center led Montenegro in a convincing, 78-64 victory over the Belgian Lions. Sam Van Rossom paced the Belgian squad with 14 points.
France remains one of the top teams heading into the FIBA 2017 Eurobasket. They will be one of the favorites to finish in the top three.
